Christmas Eve & Christmas Day...

Our traditional Christmas Eve usually consist of attending service at church followed by a stop at Mickey D's for burgers, fries & nuggets and ride around Mobile looking at Christmas lights. This year we shook things up a bit and came home after service as it was still light out. We popped in one of our favorite DVD's, "Christmas Vacation", ate cake, fudge & party mix and waited till dark before we left. It was a foggy, foggy night, but we enjoyed our light looking anyway...and time away from the city.

Here are the kiddos watching the "Santa Tracker"!

Reindeer food my youngest made at a Christmas party. She decided to leave it in the baggie instead of sprinkling it since it was raining. Santa sure did appreciate dry food for the "deers" as little sis calls them! I appreciated stepping on the food that Santa spilled on the floor on his visit!

We forgot to make cookies...but thought the Fudge would work in a pinch. Pretzels add a tough of something salty and not sweet for a change...he must have enjoyed it as the plate was empty!

The tree after Santa's arrival...how exciting and way cool!

Christmas Day...
The day started off early...very, very early. One of our favorite traditions is Santa Claus...of course for the last twelve years that has equalled to lying in bed waiting for closed eyes and sweet dreams for two very special kiddos. My oldest is quite the night owl...of course when hubby went to check on him after 1:00 a.m. he was wide awake. He blamed it on the caffeine from the coke he drank much to late...and I'm sure some of it was, but I know for a fact that most of it was excitement. I remember all to well the thrill of Christmas Eve and the anticipation of Santa's arrival from my own childhood. So...we decided to set the alarm for 3:30 in hopes that my oldest would have finally drifted off to slumber.

The alarm shook my soul as I myself has just drifted off to sleep around 3:00. Hubby got up to check on the kiddos to find my youngest sitting in her rocking chair crying because Santa had not come...because she had been too bad this year...sigh. Of course she's not been bad, perhaps challenging...but never bad. I "might" have said those words earlier in the day teasing them while we "might" have been having a rather stressful couple of days, entirely related to "sibling ying and yang". I "might" have mentioned that Santa would not come...maybe... Of course the oldest thinks "yeah right"...the youngest unfortunately, who still totally believes was heartbroken.

She finally drifted back to sleep (we think, that or she pretends really well) and we took turns keeping lookout while "Santa" filled stockings and put out presents..."Santa" rang the "I've left jingle bell", and we settled into bed at 4:25ish. We found out that "Santa" forgot to put the stocking presents in the stockings! We were back up...because "Santa" had to fumble under the tree...all the while stepping on reindeer food and being way too stressed, but the job was complete (again)! Fell asleep around 5:30...and was approached by a very wide eyed, extremely chipper oldest at the 7:30ish hour announcing that it was Christmas morning...(ummm, yeah, I knew that), especially since I'd been up almost ALL morning...

Momma arrived bringing yummy Waffle House sausage biscuits...I made coffee...and the fun began!

.
I must say that after my initial whiny start to the morning it turned out to be a very joyous, wonderful Christmas. We were blessed many times over, not in the gifts, but in the sweet and generous spirits of my two blessing. This year it was them that thought of us first to open our gifts...the gifts that my oldest saved his money for and so unselfishly spent on his family. My youngest spent an enormous amount of time making us precious jewelry from her beading kit and also gave us money...money from which she is saving to purchase a puppy when she's 13.
.
Youngest with a necklace her brother bought with his own money!

We ate a yummy traditional lunch of Ribeye Steaks & Baked Potato's...and played a new game "Set"...which completely confused me in the beginning but quickly became one of my new favorites (thanks Mom)!

Yes, life is good...time is short...live, laugh and love everyday...Merry Christmas!
