Marvelous Monday...

Today was another great boating day. I must admit that I'm quickly becoming fond of our new found hobby. I find that I love getting away...and it's a different "away" then you can find anywhere else. On the water you are where people cannot tread....space is vast...and nature is bountiful.

We headed towards The Mobile Country River Delta Marina, we had gone on a field trip a few years back to this location, paid $40, stuffed on an old boat with many bodies and whiny children and taken around the delta, at the time it was enjoyable...or so I thought!

.
We knew from our prior tour to be on the lookout for gators...it wasn't long before we spotted our first. He high tailed it in the water and I was only left with a picture of the tip of his tail...I did catch a shot of him on the way back however...we has to use a little calmer approach, we're learning! This one was pretty small compared to the one that got away!

Check Spelling
A medium sized fella...

And one wee little guy enjoying the sun. I think we saw a total of 4 or 5 gators today...most would leave as soon as we showed an interest in them...understandably!

.
Other awesome nature included a Egret, Blue Heron, King Fisher, Turtles...tons and tons of turtles, Snakes and two of the cutest little baby squirrels huddled up on a duck box.

We found a neat little area to tie the boat up and enjoyed a yummy picnic lunch. Andrew definitely has his eyes on those chips!

We saw some old fishing camps...some abandoned and others although beaten and weathered, definitely still used by some lucky soul fortunate enough to have one...the kind of soul that longs for peace, quite and all of natures goodness...a soul very much like myself!

As we explored we found ourselves on the Mobile River heading towards the "Dolly Parton" or like we like to call in my family the "Boobie Bridge". The bridge doesn't seem nearly as big from the river as from land for some reason.

After a fun 3 hours the kiddos were all tuckered out...the boat 1/2 full of fuel...the picnic lunch devoured and well momma & poppa were getting tired as well...so as with all good things, our boating day came to an end...and we headed back to the real world.

While we thoroughly enjoyed our time, one tragedy did occur. I lost my beloved sunglasses...these were my 13-15 year old Target store Indiana glasses...not fancy, but loved nether the less. I don't even know at what point I lost them...I took them off to fiddle with something for somebody (little bit) because in my crew somebody always needs something and discovered at some point they were no longer anywhere on my person...or boat. I guess if the river ever dries up they'll be there...maybe, just maybe.

  1. Okay! Keep rubbing it in...I'm still jealous of the boat!:-) Your right about the boobie bridge, it doesn't seem as big in the pic as it does when you are driving it. Sorry about the sunglasses..been there, done that.

  2. NO, not the sunglasses!!! Maybe our Target has some just as awesome that will give you another 15 years. ;) Sounds like a wonderful day. The boat adventures will be such memories for your children (and for you and Vic as well, I'm sure).

  3. You may as well be in FL with all those critters! I don't remember seeing them when I was growing up around there. Guess we were too busy being "city folk".
    Enjoy!

  4. Awesome gator pics! My brother kayaks in that area and says how fun it is. Although he says it's pretty intimidating meeting up with a gator while you're so close to the water in a kayak!
