My dentist has been harping on me to have some of Kaitlyn's baby teeth pulled, my kid has a seriously messed up mouth. Currently her permanent teeth are growing around the baby teeth, therefore not pushing them out...so by pulling the baby teeth it would free up some space and hopefully give the new teeth a place to reside. I have been avoiding the subject trying to give Kaitlyn time to mature before traumatizing her...and it WILL be traumatic! So...I made another orthodontic appointment as a follow-up from last years visit. Imagine my surprise when he told me we needed to pull EIGHT baby teeth! Wowzers! She will also need arch widening which could begin as soon as 4 months. I'm heartbroken for my poor girlie...no momma wants to put her baby through pain no matter how good the intentions are for the outcome of a beautiful and healthy smile.
On to happier topics...
The kids and I ran errands today. I remember being in 4th grade when a girl stated boldly that I needed to wear a bra! Although I do not remember the exact age in which I did start to wear one, I never forgot her comment. Kaitlyn will be in the 4th grade this school year...today at Kohls she brought me a bra and stated that she was interested in wearing one. Dutifully I did not discourage, but helped her choose the right trainer, explained some needed knowledge and laughed as we goofed around in the fitting room trying on her very first pink bra :~) The last couple of days we've noticed that there just might be a very small telltale sign of the very beginning stages of puberty...maybe. There was a part of me that was so excited for her today...my little girl is growing up...and I am so thankful for her! Who knows...that brand new pink bra might stay hidden in the drawer for some time, but the day will come sooner or later when the desire or necessity will hit and it will be there waiting...waiting for that sweet little girl who is growing into a beautiful young lady!
Poor Kate and the mouth thing! I have an intense fear of the dentist..probably due to the dental trauma I had to go through when I was younger with teeth pulling.
ReplyDeleteYes, it seems the puberty thing is going around. All Summer's friends seems to be "budding". She is not far behind them I'm sure....
Bummer on the orthodontics. Hope all goes well with that. Am dreading that necessity with my guys.
ReplyDeleteI fought bra-wearing to the bitter end. (Fourth Grade for me too!) I felt I was waaay too much of a tomboy for all that girlie crap!
